>>Moorhead Man Charged in New Year’s Eve Shooting in Mankato

(Mankato, MN) — A Moorhead man faces felony charges in a drug-related shooting on New Year’s Eve in Mankato. Blue Earth County prosecutors are charging 18-year-old Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin with five counts, including first-degree assault resulting in great bodily harm and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Police said surveillance video from a parking lot showed Mohidin and another suspect shooting at each other near a vehicle. The female victim was hit in the exchange of gunfire and taken to a Rochester hospital for surgery. Officers recovered marijuana and a handgun at the scene.

>>Truck and Fish House Break Through Ice on Lake Near Alexandria

(Alexandria, MN) — No injuries were reported after a truck pulling a fish house broke through the ice on a lake near Alexandria on Tuesday afternoon. The Douglas County Sheriff’s says Christopher Block was driving between Litte Mary and Big Mary Lake on the main channel when he broke into four feet of water. Block was safe and out of the vehicle when deputies arrived. The ice was only three to four inches thick and near some cattails. The Minnesota D-N-R recommends a minimum of 20 inches of ice for heavy-duty trucks with wheelhouse shelters.

(Washington, DC) — The U-S Department of Transportation is awarding 11.2 million dollars for repairs to the historic Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. The grant will be used for surface preparation and repainting, lead abatement, replacement of deteriorating sections, structural steel repairs, and to build new sidewalks. Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert says, “The Aerial Lift Bridge isn’t just a bridge – it’s a cherished Minnesota icon, a significant entryway to the Port of Duluth-Superior, and a critical point of connection for residents and visitors alike.”

(Dodge County, MN) — Dodge County deputies want the public’s help identifying a burglary suspect. The suspect, a Black man in a yellow hoodie, blue jeans, and orange sneakers, was seen stealing cash from a Subway store in Dodge County around 3 a.m. Friday. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

(St. Paul, MN) — Eleven state projects will receive 9.5 million in state and federal funding to improve local and regional food systems. State Ag Commissioner Thom Peterson says
The Infrastructure Grants are part of a program that will fund projects that expand capacity and infrastructure for the aggregation, processing, manufacturing, storing, transportation, wholesaling, or distribution of locally and regionally produced agricultural products. Peterson says the idea of this program came out of the COVID pandemic when we faced several supply chain challenges.
