(Washington, D.C.) — Former President Jimmy Carter’s vice president is paying final tribute to him thanks to his son. Ted Mondale delivered a tribute written by Walter Mondale before his passing. Carter’s vice president praised him, saying he achieved “so much” during his four years in the White House. The 39th president died at the age of 100 late last month and will return to his hometown of Plains, Georgia, to be buried next to his wife. All five living Presidents were in attendance at today’s State Funeral.

(Mahnomen, MN) — A northwest Minnesota man is jailed for the alleged assault of his three-month-old son last month in Mahnomen County. The sheriff’s office received a report on December 23rd that the infant was taken to the Mahnomen Health Center for reportedly not breathing. Hospital staff determined the boy suffered from non-accidental trauma or “shaken baby syndrome.” Deputies say a thorough investigation led to the arrest of the infant’s 31-year-old father Wednesday on suspicion of first-degree assault and domestic assault. The boy remains hospitalized in stable condition.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The state’s contract with over 35-thousand home care workers is set to expire tomorrow. Service Employees International Union represents the workers and has been negotiating with the Minnesota Department of Health for months. Workers held a rally at the state capitol yesterday. Some issues they want to be addressed in a new contract include health care costs, the workforce shortage, and pay. The union hopes a deal can be reached by the deadline.

(Byron, MN) — A missing Rochester man is dead. On December 31st, police responded to a vehicle on fire in Byron. A body was found in the driver’s seat. The car was registered to 76-year-old Uong Ong, who went missing on December 3rd, last seen driving home. Officials have confirmed the body was Ong. The investigation is active.

(Superior, WI) — Superior, Wisconsin, police are searching for a missing man. 62-year-old Richard Elliot was last seen Wednesday leaving for work in Duluth, going to a Duluth church, and getting on Duluth Transit Authority to return to his Superior home. Elliot is described as white, 6 feet tall, 145 pounds, with black hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored winter hat, a gray face mask, glasses, a gray zip-up jacket, jeans, and camo hiking boots.

>>Minneapolis Health Department Offers Free Radon Test Kits

(Minneapolis) – The Minneapolis Health Department will give free radon test kits in January. Radon is responsible for nearly 21,000 lung cancer deaths in the country every year. Health officials say every home in Minnesota should be tested. The statistics show two in five Minnesota homes test high for radon, and winter is a good time to test because our homes are closed up for the winter. The Health Department has 400 radon kits available. Call the city’s 311 number if you would like to request a kit.

>>Minneapolis Early Voting Begins for Special Primary

(Minneapolis) – The City of Minneapolis has opened an Early Vote Center ahead of a special primary on Tuesday, January 14. This is for the race in Senate District 60, which is vacant following the passing of former Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic. The Early Vote Center at 980 East Hennepin Avenue will be open each day leading up to the primary. There are currently eight Democrats and two Republicans running in the special primary.
