>>One Dead, Multiple People Injured in Minneapolis Shooting

(Minneapolis, MN) — One woman is dead, and another five people injured, after a shooting in south Minneapolis Monday night. Officers responded to a report of a shooting with multiple victims around 11:30 p.m. A woman with life-threatening gunshot wounds was brought to HCMC, where she later died. The five other victims, including a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds, two men with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and two women with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, were brought to HCMC. The shooting happened near a small encampment with an “unruly crowd” of over 20 people. One man was arrested for obstruction and unrelated warrants, and a gun was recovered at the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is working to identify the dead woman’s name and cause of death.

(Duluth, MN) – A 29-year-old man’s condition is unknown after he was stabbed early this morning in downtown Duluth. Police responded to a report of a stabbing around 3:45 a.m. On arrival, officers found the victim with a stab wound to the neck. He was brought to a local hospital. Investigators say the victim and suspect are known to each other. No other information is being released.

 

>>Dakota County Authorities ID Lake Marion Drowning Victim 

(Lakeville, MN) — Dakota County authorities are releasing more information about a weekend drowning on Lake Marion in Lakeville. The sheriff’s office says two men were on an inflatable device outside the swimming area Saturday evening when a wave from a boat knocked them both into the water. Deputies say a bystander rescued a 19-year-old man, but 26-year-old Reynaldo Patishtan Hernandez of Northfield went under and never resurfaced. Divers located Hernandez’s body about 40 yards from shore two-and-a-half hours later. Investigators say neither of the men could swim.

 

>>Man Who Pleaded Guilty in 2022 St. Cloud Murder Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison

(St. Cloud, MN) — A man who pleaded guilty for his role in the 2022 St. Cloud fatal shooting of 39-year-old Michael Batsche has been sentenced to 16 years in prison. 55-year-old Paul Coleman pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree murder in March. His co-defendant, 44-year-old Alphonso Cotto, was sentenced to over 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

 

>>MN Homeless Advocate Speaks Out Against Recent SCOTUS Ruling

(Undated) – Local advocates are speaking out against a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that they say criminalizes homelessness. Matt Traynor of the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless says, “Cities now can set ordinances where they can fine or even charge people that appear to be camping on city-owned property.” He says Rochester passed an ordinance this spring, and Duluth is considering one. Traynor says the solution is finding an indoor place where these people can sleep overnight.

(Preston, MN) — Senator Amy Klobuchar visited Minnesota’s newest veterans home in Preston yesterday. She described the home as a dream come true for many Minnesotans. During her visit, she toured the facility and spoke to staff and patients. The home was dedicated last month and currently accommodates 22 veterans. The facility’s director of nursing has stated that the ultimate goal is to have more than 50 patients living at the home.

U.S. News & World Report recently released its annual hospital rankings and included the Minnesota location in its honor roll of the top 20 U.S. hospitals. Additionally, the Rochester location was ranked in the top five in four specialty treatment categories: cancer, neurology, orthopedics, and cardiology.

(St. Paul, MN) – Prime Day deals are available today, and Minnesota’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning of potential scams. The BBB’s Bao Vang says beware of unsolicited emails that appear to be from brands you trust, “claiming you have a free gift waiting, and all you need to do is verify information, or you get an email, call, or text about a company that needs to look into an issue about your account.” Vang says to only give up your credit card or personal information if you’re sure it’s a legitimate offer.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed guard PJ Dozier. Dozier most recently played for Partizan in Serbia last season, appearing in 33 Euro League games and averaging 9.2 points, 3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals. He’ll wear #35 for the Wolves. Per team policy, no agreement terms have been released.

(Bloomington, MN) – The Midwest Cubing Association is celebrating the Rubik’s Cube 50th anniversary at the Mall of America (MOA) today by holding this year’s Rubik’s North America All-Stars Competition. MCA Organizer Carter Kucala says this is a chance for people to learn about how versatile speedcubing can be. He praises, “Every competition, we have people ranging from five seconds to solve a regular Rubik’s Cube to up to a minute or even more. Everyone is welcome, regardless of how fast they can solve.” The free event will host three rounds. Each of the 28 qualifying competitors can solve a 3-by-3 Rubik’s Cube in under seven seconds!
