(Bloomington, MN) — An internet outage affecting Microsoft systems is causing widespread problems around the world, and a big part of it is flights being canceled – including some at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Jeff Lea with the Metropolitan Airports Commission is urging all passengers to check with their airlines directly before arriving at the airport to make sure their flight is on time. At last check, more than 100 flights had been scrubbed at MSP Airport.

(La Crescent, MN) — A woman lost control of her SUV on a southeastern Minnesota road Thursday morning and plummeted below into the roof of a residential garage. La Crescent police say the driver suffered an unspecified medical emergency moments before her SUV left the road, went through some trees behind the home, and landed back-end first into the attached garage’s roof. No one was home at the time. The motorist survived her injuries.

>>University Of Minnesota Engineers Send New State Flag Into Space

(Montgomery, MN) — The new state flag of Minnesota was recently sent into space for the first time by an engineering team from the University of Minnesota. They launched a balloon carrying the flag in Montgomery on Wednesday. The U.S. and U of M flags were also attached to the balloon’s payload, which contained nano-fabricated materials. The engineering team’s goal was to study how these materials would behave outside of Earth’s atmosphere. After the launch, Governor Walz responded to the university’s social media post by saying, “Well, that’s friggin sweet.”

>>Fridley Food Plant Closing

(Fridley, MN) — Rich Products Corporation is planning to close its Fridley food plant later this year. The company has informed the state that layoffs will start at the facility in mid-September and will continue through the end of the year. Approximately 170 employees will be affected by the closure. However, the company will still operate plants in Eagan and Motley.

>>Amazon To Build Distribution Center In Baxter

(Baxter, MN) — Amazon is planning to build a new distribution facility in Crow Wing County. The distribution center in Baxter will be just under 50,000 square feet, with the potential to expand to over 68,000 square feet if necessary. Construction is set to begin this fall, and the completion is scheduled for sometime next year.
