She served as vice president for research and innovation at the University of Michigan before being selected by Minnesota. Cunningham was a faculty member in the U-M Schools of Public Health and Medicine for over 25 years. Her formal inauguration ceremony will be on September 18th in the Northrup Auditorium and Outdoor Mall.

(Rochester, MN) — A southern Minnesota city is being praised for being one of the safest and most affordable in the U.S. The recent study by GO-Banking-Rates-dot-com ranked Rochester fifth overall based on data from the U.S. Census and the FBI. The city’s monthly cost of living was estimated to be just over 41 hundred dollars a month, with an average monthly mortgage cost of just under two thousand dollars. That compares favorably to the rest of the top ten, with only two cities having a lower monthly cost of living.

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man faces several charges after shooting an airsoft rifle at targets on local school grounds. Police say around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, 20-year-old Jakob Barrows was spotted wearing a mask, a vest with magazine pouches, and a rifle described as an AK47 at Rochester Arts and Sciences Academy (RASA). Barrow told officers he lived nearby and was “practicing his tactical moves” by shooting at a plastic Target bag placed on a chair in the school’s parking lot.

(Boston, MA) — Minnesota baseball legend Joe Mauer is being inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame this evening (Mon 5pm) in Boston. Mauer played baseball, football, and basketball at Cretin Derham Hall in St. Paul. He was named U-S-A Today National Player of the Year in football and baseball and two-time all-state in basketball. Mauer made a verbal commitment to play quarterback at Florida State but was selected first overall by the Minnesota Twins in 2001 and spent 15 years with his hometown team. Forty-one-year-old Mauer will be inducted into Cooperstown’s Baseball Hall of Fame in three weeks.
