(Watkins, MN) — A high-speed motorcycle chase through Meeker County ended with a dramatic arrest Sunday evening. Just after 6:30 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a motorcyclist flying through Watkins at speeds topping 100 miles per hour. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the motorcyclist took off, leading deputies on a two-mile pursuit. The chase ended when the rider pulled into a residence and tried to flee on foot. Deputies arrested 37-year-old Ronald Bednar of Watkins, who now faces multiple charges. Authorities say Bednar had failed to register the motorcycle and was using fake license plates. The plate read, quote, “Will Run.”

Officers say several people were attempting first aid on the victim Sunday afternoon, but medics pronounced him dead on scene. (Duluth, MN) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation says bridge repair work will begin a week from today on I-35 in Duluth. Starting following Monday, work will take place on northbound I-35 just north of the 40th Avenue West onramp near the ore docks. MNDot says the project will begin with constructing crossovers in preparation for the bridge repair work that will require lane closures. Drivers can expect single lane head-to-head traffic on the southbound lanes of I-35. This project is expected to be completed by October.
