The vehicle came to a stop just outside Faribault around 3 p.m., and investigators stated that the suspect entered the southbound lanes while brandishing a handgun. The interstate was closed, and authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for the area. The suspect was ultimately arrested using non-lethal tactics around 7 p.m.

More than six dozen firefighters from multiple agencies responded to help put out the fire. Authorities say one resident needed treatment for injuries and smoke inhalation, while two firefighters were treated for heat-related injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

(Cohasset, MN) — State investigators say a coal ash wastewater leak reported last week in Itasca County is bigger than initially estimated. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says the Tuesday leak at the Boswell Energy Center in Cohasset was about five-point-five-million gallons. The MPCA and Minnesota Power initially estimated the leak to be around a million gallons. The state has hired a contractor to conduct independent sampling of the impact of the spill on Blackwater Lake, Blackwater Creek, and the surrounding natural habitat.
