(Minneapolis) – Minneapolis Police have announced a 16-year-old boy has been arrested for the murder of 11-year-old Amir Lamar Atkins. Police Chief Brian O’Hara says the 16-year-old was arrested Tuesday without incident in Apple Valley. The teen was booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. The shooting happened a month ago today during the afternoon at Folwell Park on Dowling Avenue North. Police say gunfire erupted in the park and Atkins was shot and killed.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Two Minneapolis police officers are recovering from stab wounds suffered Tuesday morning while responding to a domestic dispute. Investigators say they saw a man and woman physically struggling over one of their children in a hallway and intervened. The man barricaded himself inside his apartment kitchen near a set of knives and used a dog as a shield. The officers went inside to disarm and handcuff the suspect when he cut one officer on the head and another on the hand. The man had an apparent self-inflicted stab wound to the chest. The officers were treated and released from the hospital.

(Sharon Township, MN) — The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office says an 82-year-old man is dead after a crash between a car and a side-by-side utility vehicle near Le Center. Deputies say a car driven by a 16-year-old girl collided with a U-T-V driven by Allen Wilmes of Le Sueur at an intersection Tuesday afternoon. The report says Wilmes was ejected and life-saving measures were performed, but he died at the scene. The car’s driver wasn’t hurt. The crash is still under investigation.

(Undated) – During a lottery, the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management selected 75 applicants from a pool of 569 to be awarded cannabis retailer business licenses. OCM Interim Director Eric Taubel says he’s proud of the work OCM staff has done to reach this milestone and is eager to see applicants move into action with their business plans. Selected applicants must still complete final steps in the licensing process before they are granted a business license. On August 1, OCM will open a new application window for cannabis event organizers and a second window for cannabis testing facilities.

Xcel Energy Regional Vice President John Marshall says it’s an opportunity to showcase a fun experience for kids from underserved communities. The event was part of Neighborhood House’s Summer Sunrise youth programming activities in St. Paul.

(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings are back on the field as training camp officially gets underway at the TCO Performance Center in Eagan. Veterans reported Tuesday, and the first full practice is set for today. Head Coach Kevin O’Connell says the team is focused on building its identity across all three phases—offense, defense, and special teams—while keeping players on track for the season opener. The Vikings open the regular season on Monday night, September 8th, on the road against the Chicago Bears. Their first preseason matchup is August 9th at U.S. Bank Stadium against the Houston Texans.
