>>Iowans Seeking Abortions Are Welcome In Minnesota

(Bloomington, MN) — Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan says Iowans in need of an abortion are welcome in Minnesota. She visited the Whole Women’s Health Alliance facility in Bloomington and afterward extended the invitation to Iowans, assuring them that Minnesotans would welcome and take care of them. Iowa is set to enforce a six-week ban on most abortions starting Monday.

 

>>Minnesota Man Draws 6-Year Prison Sentence for Mailing Fentanyl to Wisconsin

(Madison, WI) — A Minnesota man will spend six years in federal prison for sending a package containing a large quantity of fentanyl from Arizona to Wisconsin. Prosecutors say 26-year-old Yoshi Walker from New Brighton mailed 16 thousand fentanyl pills to Madison in October of 2022, but law enforcement intercepted the package. He’s accused of sending at least two other boxes containing 20 thousand pills to Madison as part of a drug trafficking organization. Walker pleaded guilty in April to attempting to distribute fentanyl.

 

>>Worker Suffers Serious Injuries in Fall at Job Site Near Hutchinson 

(Ellsworth Township, MN) — A fiber optic worker is hospitalized in St. Cloud after suffering serious injuries in a job site accident near Hutchinson. Meeker County sheriff’s deputies say 37-year-old Peter Mollema of Slayton fell into a pit Thursday night and landed on a grounding rod, which impaled his leg. Mollema was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

(Undated) — If you’re heading to your favorite watering hole to cool off this weekend, officials encourage you to put safety first. The DNR’s Lisa Dugan says each year “We see an average of 10 Minnesotans drown in non-boating accidents, along with the countless number of near drownings or close calls, which I think are really important numbers to keep in mind all of those close calls that can happen.” Dugan says to make sure you have someone in your group keeping an eye out for those in the water. She says drowning can happen quickly and silently.

 

>>Minneapolis Debuts Concepts for George Floyd Square

(Minneapolis, MN) – Minneapolis is asking for the public’s input on three concepts that debuted Tuesday for George Floyd Square. Senior Project Manager Alexander Kado says on top of this they unveiled five ideas for The Peoples’ Way, a former gas station, which will become a community space. He emphasizes working with the community to understand the needs from a memorial standpoint, as well as what the city will allow. Kado stresses that this is just the first concept draft and that the city is on track to conclude the community engagement work on the Square this fall and then furnish a final report before the end of the year. Implementation will begin in early 2025.

 

>>Minnesota Twins Reinstate Royce Lewis from Injured List 

(Detroit, MI) — Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis is expected to be back in the lineup for the series opener tonight in Detroit. Lewis was reinstated from the injured list after missing 16 games with a right abductor strain. He played in two rehab assignment games for the St. Paul Saints this week. Lewis is hitting .292 with 10 home runs and 18 R-B-Is in 28 games this season. The Twins and Tigers play game one of a three-game series this evening at Comerica Park.
