(Jackson, MN) — A Minnesota State Patrol trooper who drowned in South Dakota will be honored today in her hometown. The funeral for 33-year-old Mollie McClure is set for 11 a.m. at Jackson County Central High School in southwestern Minnesota. McClure, who served in the St. Cloud district, died June 29th while boating on Waubay Lake when she went into the water and, at some point, wasn’t able to keep swimming. She went underwater before she could be rescued.

(Corona Township, MN) — A teenage girl is in the Arrowhead Juvenile Detention Center in Duluth after an alleged axe attack on her mother. The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says the 40-year-old victim called 9-1-1 early Sunday to report that her 15-year-old daughter had assaulted her while she was sleeping. Deputies say the woman was found conscious with several lacerations and injuries and airlifted to a Duluth hospital. The girl was taken into custody pending assault charges. An axe was recovered from the mother’s bedroom.

(Chanhassen, MN) — The National Weather Service says a pair of tornadoes were reported Monday night in far northwestern Minnesota. The first tornado was spotted at 9 pm north of Lockhart in Norman County, and the second one was reported in the same area about half an hour later. Severe thunderstorms also rumbled across parts of southwest and south central Minnesota last night. There were downed trees, powerlines, and power outages in Brown and Watonwan counties.

(Rochester, MN) – Rochester city leaders are moving forward with plans for a major new sports and recreation complex. The City Council has approved the first design phase, which includes eight baseball and softball fields, two soccer fields, 12 pickleball courts, a playground, and walking trails. The vote passed 5-to-2, with some council members voicing concerns about how to fund phase two of the project. Ward One’s Patrick Keene stressed that no additional sales tax dollars would be used.

(Minneapolis, MN) – The Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs open a three-game interleague series tonight (Tues 6:40 pm) at Target Field. The Twins took two of three from Tampa Bay over the weekend at home. Simeon Woods Richardson is the starting pitcher for Minnesota in the opener. The Twins are tied with the Royals for second place in the American League Central. The Cubs lead the N-L Central division. Chicago always draws a lot of fans in Minneapolis.
