(Moorhead, MN) – Prosecutors have charged two people from Moorhead with the murder of a three-year-old boy they say was beaten to death in March while in the couple’s care. 24-year-old Rosa Garza and 22-year-old Shiann Erickson face second-degree murder charges after investigators say Eastyn Deronjic suffered 28 blunt-force injuries. According to the criminal complaint, Erickson told police she would stand between Garza and the boy so he wouldn’t get hit, but denied seeing Garza hit the boy in the days before his death.

(St. Paul, MN) — The University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD) is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing 12-year-old. Amayah Whitefeather, a.k.a. Ray, was last seen at the Commonwealth Terrace Cooperative on the UMN’s St. Paul campus around 3 p.m. Monday. Whitefeather is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, 180 pounds, with dark shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 612-624-2677.

(St. Paul, MN) – As President Joe Biden rejects continued calls for him to leave the race, his campaign is hammering GOP rival Donald Trump for alleged affiliation with the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025,” calling it “a far-right playbook for an extreme and dangerous administration.” Biden’s campaign warns it would punish women who get an abortion, raise taxes on the middle class while giving handouts to billionaire donors, and slash Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. But Minnesota Republican Party Chairman David Hann contends those accusations are unfounded, noting that “Donald Trump has demonstrated over the past several years that he’s his own man. He sets his own agenda. I’ve not seen any indication there’s any connection between the Trump campaign and Project 2025.” Hann acknowledges the Heritage Foundation may have some ideas “similar to what the president (Trump) has talked about.”

Tracy Smetana with the State Department of Commerce says if we follow in Alabama’s footsteps by creating financial assistance for homeowners in need of roof updates, residents could avoid a costly fix and stabilize the insurance market. She explains, “The insurance companies are required to offer a premium discount for upgraded or new roofs built to that Fortified standard. That’s a benefit again to individual homeowners, but of course, insurance rates across the state and insurance availability.” The “Fortified” standard she mentioned is gaining more traction in making buildings more climate-resilient. While the Minnesota Legislature approved planning funds, more money will need to be secured next session for the actual grants.

The list of new foods includes Swedish ‘Sota Sliders at the Hamline Church Dining Hall, a Sweet Corn Cola Float at the Blue Moon Dine-in Theater, Grilled Purple Sticky Rice at the Union Hmong Kitchen, and Dill Pickle Tots at Tot Boss. Officials say a total of 1,600 menu items will be available at nearly 300 different vendors on the fairgrounds. The 2024 State Fair runs from August 22nd through September 2nd.
