(Brooklyn Center, MN) — Another police shooting in the cities this week after Brooklyn Center officers shot a man with a chainsaw last night. Officers responded to a Brooklyn Center home around 10:30 on a report of a person armed with knives inside. Crisis negotiation teams spoke with the suspect, telling him he was under arrest. The man walked outside the home with a chainsaw. Police say they tried to arrest him with non-lethal tactics before resorting to shooting him. The suspect was brought to a hospital and is in stable condition. Police say the officers involved are on critical incident leave. This comes after Freeborn County deputies responded to an Albert Lea home Tuesday night for a domestic disturbance. A man was killed, and a woman was found dead. The deputies involved were also put on critical incident leave.

(St. Paul, MN) – A new poll shows that most Minnesotans approve of the job Governor Tim Walz is doing for Minnesota, but they’re not sure if he should run for a third term. According to the KSTP/Survey USA poll, 58% of Minnesotans approve of the governor’s job performance, while 39% disapprove. When the group was asked if he should run for a third term, 43% said yes, 43% said no, with 13% unsure. When asked about running for a third term, Governor Walz says he needed to talk it over with family and travel the state. He said a decision could be coming soon.

(Seattle, WA) — The Seattle Storm ended the Minnesota Lynx’s undefeated season last night, 94-84. The Lynx are now 9-1, just days after star player Napheesa Collier was named Western Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Minnesota lost a basket to a shot clock violation after an official review, giving Seattle the chance to take the lead. Seattle shot ahead early in the fourth quarter, 75-66. The Lynx are back home Saturday night to face the LA Sparks and honor 2024 Hall of Fame inductee Seimone Augustus.

(Brimson, MN) — The Jenkins Creek fire in Brimson remains at 94% containment after beginning a month ago. The National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) Team says it’s using a full suppression strategy, with the best progress while working between the Cadotte Lake Campground and Bundle Lake Road. Officials ask residents not to use any drones over or near the wildfires. If unauthorized drones are in flight, the team can’t use their drones to stop and track the fire. A storm coming tomorrow night may help clear the smoke with clouds and rainfall.

(Undated) — Three peregrine falcon chicks seen on the DNR FalconCam received bands last week. Midwest Peregrine Society officials say the chicks, two female and one male, were briefly removed from the nest last Monday, getting two silver identification bands each. Issued by the U.S. Geological Survey, the field-readable bands allow for identification from a distance. It also helps provide data on lifespan, breeding territory, and population distribution. A quick health check showed all the chicks are developing well.

(Duluth, MN) — The Duluth Police Department welcomes its fifth K9 member, Fitz! Officer Shane McKee and Fitz began K9 school on February 3rd and graduated on May 22nd, starting their job on May 26th. Fitz is a one-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd/Malinois from Hungary who dual-specializes in narcotic detection, tracking, article searching, and criminal apprehension. He got his name from the ship, the Edmund Fitzgerald. Officer McKee has been part of the DPD for six years and a police officer for nine.
