>>Minnesota Secretary of State Subpoenaed in Federal Voter Rolls Investigation

(Washington, DC) —  The Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office is being subpoenaed to turn in certain individual voter records.  The move is part of a federal investigation into whether non-citizens are registered or have illegally cast ballots in the state.  C-B-S News reports the Justice Department is in search of records about more than 125 individuals in Minnesota.  The records do not include the ballots.   The Secretary of State’s Office said in a statement, “Election security is a top priority.”

>>Klobuchar Supports Funding Package for Department of Homeland Security

(Washington, DC)  —  U-S Senator Amy Klobuchar is supporting the package that will fund most of the Department of Homeland Security.   Klobuchar said on social media, “breaking and got done at 2:30 a.m. Senate agrees to fund most of D-H-S, including T-S-A and FEMA, Coast Guard, and C-I-S-A (cyber) but not ICE.”   Negotiators failed to agree on reforms demanded by Democrats following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis.   Long lines at T-S-A airport checkpoints put pressure on the U-S Senate to act.  The package now goes to the U-S House.

>>Representative Igo Touts Nuclear Energy Options Legislation

(St. Paul, MN) — Republican State Representative Spencer Igo (EYE’-go) of Itasca County is touting his bill that would evaluate nuclear energy options in Minnesota.   It was laid over in the House Energy Committee on Thursday afternoon.   Igo says Minnesota’s carbon-free energy goals make it critical to explore all viable sources, including nuclear, to achieve these targets.   He says, “The goal is reliable, affordable, and clean energy, ensuring data, expertise, and the needs of Minnesota families and businesses guide decisions.”

>>Jessi Pierce Visitation Set for Sunday

(White Bear Lake, MN) — A public visitation for NHL reporter Jessi Pierce and her three children is scheduled for this weekend. 37-year-old Pierce, along with her children—Hudson, 8; Cayden, 6; and Avery, 4 died after a fire broke out in their home last Saturday morning. Investigators say the cause of the fire remains under review. However, preliminary findings show no indication that it was intentionally set. Visitation will take place Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Mueller Memorial in White Bear Lake.

>>Shooting in South Minneapolis Leaves Man Dead, Two Wounded

(Minneapolis, MN) –  Police are investigating a shooting in south Minneapolis that left one man dead and two injured.  Officers found three shooting victims around 12:30 this morning near Chicago and Franklin Avenues.  One died at the scene, and two others were taken to the hospital.   Investigators say it appears the men were on a sidewalk when one person opened fire and fled in a vehicle.  No arrests have been made.

>>Gopher Women’s Basketball vs UCLA in NCAA Sweet 16

(Sacramento, CA)   — The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team plays top-seed U-C-L-A tonight (Fri 6:30) in the Sweet 16 in Sacramento, California.   The Golden Gophers are 24-8 while the Bruins have a 33-1 record.   U-C-L-A beat Minnesota 76-58 in their lone Big Ten conference meeting in January at the Barn.    The Bruins are 18-point favorites to advance to the Elite Eight on Sunday.
