(Washington, DC) — Congressman Tom Emmer and Minnesota’s Republican Delegation continue to push to eliminate funding for passenger rail projects in the state. G-O-P House members sent a letter to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development to end funding for the Blue Line Light Rail extension and Northern Lights Express between the Twin Cities and Duluth. Emmer said, “These transportation projects are not only unpopular, but also unsuccessful and a waste of taxpayer dollars.”

(Park Rapids, MN) — Two adults are dead, and a 13-year-old girl has life-threatening injuries after a head-on crash in Park Rapids Sunday night. The State Patrol says a pickup driven by 45-year-old Bradley Hayes crossed the centerline and collided with an SUV. Hayes, who troopers suspect was under the influence of alcohol, died at the scene. A five-year-old boy riding with him suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Kimberly Rife, 39, of Park Rapids, was driving the SUV, and the 13-year-old girl was with her. Rife and the two children were taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, where Rife died.

(Albertville, MN) — A woman was hurt when a turkey flew into her windshield. The Minnesota State Patrol says the incident happened on Sunday at about 8:45 a.m. on Interstate 94 in Albertville. Thirty-seven-year-old Jennifer Kounsa of Waite Park was traveling east when the turkey struck her windshield. Kounsa was taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The wrestling community is saddened by the death of longtime University of Minnesota coach J. Robinson. His family says Robinson died Sunday in Southern California at age 79. Robinson led the Golden Gophers to three national championships in 2001, 2002, and 2007. He coached Minnesota from 1986 to 2016. His teams won six Big Ten titles, had 14 individual national champions, and he was named conference Coach of the Year eight times. Robinson started his coaching career as an assistant at Iowa.

(Kansas City, MO) — The Minnesota Twins open a three-game Central Division series today (3 pm) in Kansas City. The 1-2 Twins lost the rubber match to the Orioles 8-6 on Sunday in Baltimore. The 1-2 Royals beat the Braves 4-1 Sunday in Atlanta to salvage the series finale. Right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson will make his first start for Minnesota this afternoon. The Twins’ home opener is Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
