Witnesses reported that the man was hit by a passing boxcar when he got too close to the train engine as it crossed through the intersection. The victim was rushed to Mayo Clinic, St. Mary’s, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward. The authorities have identified the victim as a 23-year-old man but have not released any further details about his identity. Additionally, while the police were at the scene of the train accident, a vehicle drove through the blocked-off area and backed into an apartment building, resulting in the arrest of the driver for suspected DUI. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this separate incident.

(Burnsville, MN) — A large turnout is expected at a memorial today (Mon 1pm) for fallen Eden Prairie and Eagan firefighter Joseph Johns in Burnsville. Minneapolis police say 40-year-old Johns was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Whiskey Junction saloon while off duty last Sunday. Investigators said Johns was shot in an exchange of gunfire between two groups of motorcyclists. Johns started as a part-time firefighter with Eden Prairie in 2015 and was hired full-time by the Eagan Fire Department in 2020. No arrests have been announced for his killing.

(Rochester, MN) — The Rochester City Council will hold a work session today to figure out how to increase the number of passengers at Rochester International Airport. The council will discuss why passengers are opting for other airports to start some of their trips. Since the pandemic, passenger numbers have dropped to about half of what they were in 2019. A study that will be presented to the council suggests that offering more direct flights to destinations not currently served by the airport could increase passenger numbers by up to 33%.
