(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota’s unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.2% in April. The state shed 1,300 jobs, effectively flat over the month. Mass layoff announcements from the federal government or other employers are not reflected in this data because a job decline will not appear until employees are actually off payroll. Over the year, Minnesota has added 35,480 payroll jobs. The private sector gained 26,477 jobs.

(Sauk Rapids, MN) — A Sauk Rapids man charged with having sex with a 15-year-old girl has pleaded guilty. 23-year-old Brady Albertson bought the girl alcohol, and they would drink together at his residence in north St. Cloud. The girl said the first time the two had relations was when she got sick from drinking too much, and Albertson allegedly took off her clothes and climbed on top of her. The girl told investigators that Albertson bought her alcohol approximately 12 times, and they had intercourse on various occasions. He will be sentenced in July.

(Prior Lake, MN) — Republican candidate Tyler Kistner plans to run for Congress again in Minnesota’s 2nd District next year. The Marine veteran lost twice to Congresswoman Angie Craig in 2020 and 2022, but she’s running for U.S. Senate in 2026. Kistner said in a statement, “After an overwhelming outpouring of encouragement from people across the district and careful prayer and deliberation, I have decided to enter the arena once again and answer the call to serve the people.” Democratic state Senator Matt Klein of Mendota Heights and former Senator Matt Little of Lakeville are also running for Craig’s 2nd District seat.
