>>MPD Upgrade Shooting to Homicide After Man Dies in Hospital

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minneapolis police are upgrading a shooting investigation to a homicide one day later after learning the victim died. Police say a man in his late 40s approached an ambulance around 8:20 p.m. last Thursday with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was brought to Hennepin Healthcare. The man died in the hospital on Friday. Investigators believe an altercation inside a vehicle escalated to gunfire, wounding the victim. The gunman then fled, and the victim’s wife drove him to the ambulance. No arrests have been made. 

 

>>Woman Dies in Andover Hit-and-Run

(Andover, MN) — A woman is dead following a hit-and-run in Andover. Around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Anoka County deputies and police, and Andover fire responded to a crash report. Investigators say a westbound pickup truck struck a southbound SUV. The woman driving the SUV was brought to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The pickup driver fled the crash and was found a short time later. He was arrested and is pending formal charges. The crash is under investigation. 

 

>>Man and Woman Injured in House Fire near Alexandria

(Alexandria, MN) — Two people are being treated at the HCMC Burn Center for injuries suffered in a house fire near Alexandria. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says a woman was still inside the burning home when the fire was reported late Saturday night. Crews found a man outside covered in black soot and learned that he re-entered the house to rescue the female occupant. Deputies say Dale and Janice Petersen were taken to a hospital in Alexandria before being airlifted to Minneapolis. Their home is considered a total loss, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine the cause of the fire.  

 

>>Some Progress Being Made on Northeast Minnesota Wildfires 

(Brimson, MN) — Fire officials say great progress is being made along the perimeter of the Camp House Fire near Brimson in northeastern Minnesota.  It is just over 1,200 acres and 40% contained. The Jenkins Creek Fire is more than 1,600 acres and only 6% contained. Cool, wet conditions over the weekend allowed crews to progress, but more dry, windy weather is in the forecast. The Munger Shaw Fire is now 95% contained. There’s a public meeting on the Jenkins Creek and Camp House fires tonight at 6 p.m. at Mesabi East High School in Aurora. 

 

>>Franzen Ends Bid for U.S. Senate

(Edina, MN) — Former Minnesota Senate Minority Leader Melissa Lopez-Franzen has ended her campaign for U.S. Senate two months after announcing she would run for the seat currently held by Tina Smith. Lopez-Franzen says she decided to end her run after thoughtful reflection and conversations with family, supporters, and community leaders. She served ten years in the state Senate, but left after new legislative maps were drawn in 2022. Lopez-Franzen’s fellow Democrats, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and Congresswoman Angie Craig, have announced their campaigns. Republicans Royce White and Adam Schwarze are also running.

 

>>ROCORI School Fundraising Scam

(Cold Spring, MN) — ROCORI Area Schools warn area businesses about a scam involving homecoming t-shirts. The scam involves a person calling businesses about collecting donations for t-shirts to be thrown into the crowd at ROCORI’s homecoming events. The caller uses the name of a student activity advisor to appear to be legitimate. The district says they never use third-party services or outside individuals to solicit funds, and if there is ever a fundraiser connected to ROCORI schools, people would hear directly from students, teachers, coaches, or staff. They say if anyone receives a fundraising request and isn’t sure of its legitimacy, they should contact the district office.  

 

>>Anoka to Break Ground on Municipal Cannabis Dispensary Thursday 

(Anoka, MN) — The city of Anoka is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for its municipal cannabis dispensary. It will be located on East River Road next to the city-owned liquor store. The city unveiled a logo that says, “Anoka Cannabis Company established in 2025.” Anoka officials will be joined at the groundbreaking by the House author of the cannabis bill,  Representative Zack Stephenson of Coon Rapids.
