(St. Paul, MN) — Since the start of the session, both Democrats and Republicans have agreed on one thing: Minnesota has a serious issue with fraud and government waste, and it needs to stop. House Fraud Prevention Committee Chair Kristin Robbins says that more fraud cases were reported once the new website went up. In the first week, there were 530 submissions. The committee meets weekly at the Capitol, and those hearings are open to the public.
>>Man Dead After Another Minneapolis Shooting
(Minneapolis, MN) — A Minneapolis man is dead, and a gunshot just missed two children after shots were fired on Wednesday. Minneapolis police responded around 1 p.m. to a report of shots fired. Officers found a man in his 30s with gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving aid, he died at the scene. Police say a stray bullet just missed hitting an infant and a toddler inside a nearby SUV. No arrests have been made. This comes hours after an overnight shooting in the same area that killed three people.
>>Woman Dies in Wodbury House Fire
(Woodbury, MN) — A woman is dead after a house fire in Woodbury this morning (THURS). Crews responded to a 911 call of a burning home around 5:30 a.m. Homeowners told firefighters someone might still be inside. A woman in her 60s was found dead inside. The cause of the fire is unknown.

(St. Paul, MN) — More than 300 law enforcement agencies will put extra officers on the roads starting today(Thursday) through Labor Day. They will focus on speeding, seat belt usage, impairment, and distracted drivers. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says we’re entering the 100 deadliest days on Minnesota roads, when we see some of the highest traffic fatalities. Last year, there were 151 fatal crashes, with 44 of them occurring between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
>>Fergus Falls Woman Accused of Threatening Bank Employee
(Fergus Falls, MN) — A 71-year-old woman from Fergus Falls was arrested in Fergus Falls for threatening a bank employee. On Monday, Cynthia Nelson entered the bank to close her account and demanded a refund for a $2.16 charge from the postal service, which upset her. After receiving the refund, Nelson became agitated, threatened the employee by saying, “I’m not done with you,” and left the bank while using an expletive and showing her middle finger. Nelson is charged with threatening violence and disorderly conduct.
>>Social District Opens in Anoka Thursday for 3rd Season
(Anoka, MN) — The Social District in downtown Anoka opens today (Thursday) for its third season. Community development director Doug Borgland says it’s a geographic area where people can ‘sip and stroll’ or drink alcoholic beverages and stop into local businesses. Anoka started its Social District pilot program in September 2023, and Shakopee and Stillwater were granted programs last year. Borgland says Anoka hasn’t had any policing issues and expanded its district in 2024.

(Lincoln, NE) — The latest U-S Drought Monitor map shows no longer severe drought anywhere in Minnesota. Last week, just over five percent had severe drought conditions. Most of the state has been receiving rainfall. Minnesota’s moderate drought areas declined significantly from 46 to 22 percent. Around 74 percent of the state is still abnormally dry.
