>>Teen Dies in Crash North of Wadena
(Wadena, MN) — Just before 11 last night, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident north of Wadena in Blufton Township. When officers arrived, they found a truck on its side in a ditch. 18-year-old Blake Unger was found dead near the vehicle. The driver, 18-year-old Izak Schermerhorn, was located and arrested and is facing 4th-degree DWI and criminal vehicular charges.

(Bemidji, MN) — City of Bemidji officials are asking people to avoid a public area due to a gas leak. Police, fire, Minnesota Energy, and Public Works responded to a report of a supply line leak in the 300 block of Beltrami Avenue. People were evacuated from that block, as well as the 100-to 200-blocks of 3rd and 4th streets. Officials ask people to stay away until the leak is repaired.
>>Lawyers For Senator Nicole Mitchell Ask Court To Dismiss Burglary Tool Charge
(Detroit Lakes, MN) — Attorneys for Minnesota State Senator Nicole Mitchell are requesting the court to dismiss one of the charges against her. They accuse Becker County prosecutors of acting with vindictiveness by adding a second felony charge after her trial was delayed. Mitchell was initially charged in February with felony possession of burglary or theft tools, as she allegedly used a crowbar to enter a home that her late father shared with her stepmother. In April 2024, she was arrested on a pending first-degree burglary charge and pleaded not guilty in August. Her trial is scheduled for June 18th.
>>FAITH Communities Worried About Impacts of “One, Big, Beautiful Bill”
(St. Paul, MN) — ISAIAH, a nonpartisan coalition of faith communities in Minnesota, is asking faith members to hold Republican Representatives accountable for their votes toward the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” which would make significant cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. Associate Pastor Michael Mandsager of Bethel Lutheran Church says the bill’s passage would severely hurt most rural faith communities, who would see increased medical costs, hospitals leaving their areas, and food deserts. Mandsager says ISAIAH has sought a sit-down conversation with Rep. Tom Emmer but has heard no response.

(Undated) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is looking for help with tracking the state’s bear population. Bear Project Leader Andrew Tri says as the bear range continues to expand across Minnesota, they’re asking for people to report sightings. Tri says, in particular, that they want reported sightings that occur outside the northeastern part of the state. You can report a bear sighting by visiting the Minnesota DNR website.
