(St. Paul, MN) — A measure unanimously approved by the Minnesota Senate renames a Minneapolis bridge in honor of the late Senator Kari Dziedzic (DEED’-zick). The 10th Avenue bridge over the Mississippi River would be known as the Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic Memorial Bridge. The Minneapolis Democrat died in December after battling cancer at age 62. Senator Doron Clark, who now serves in Senator Dziedzic’s seat, says, “This memorial will be a fitting tribute to her public service, advocacy, and dedication to her constituents.”

(New York Mills, MN) — Authorities in Otter Tail County say a building in New York Mills containing multiple businesses appears to be a total loss following a fire. Deputies and firefighters found the building engulfed in flames around 1:30 this morning (Friday). Crews put out the fire, and no one was hurt. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping local investigators try to determine the cause.

(Fargo, ND) — A Moorhead man, wanted in Bismarck on a 34-year-old warrant, has been arrested in West Fargo. 62-year-old Gerald Lynn Mays was in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. During Thursday night’s traffic stop, officers identified a passenger with possible outstanding warrants. Upon further investigation, officers determined that one of the passengers had an extraditable felony warrant from 1991 in Burleigh County for gross sexual imposition of a minor. Mays was arrested on the Burleigh County warrant and an additional outstanding warrant in Missouri for possession of marijuana.

(St. Paul, MN) — Police in St. Paul say a second-grade student brought a gun to class Thursday at Bruce Vento Elementary. Officers say they were called to the school after a staff member found a gun in the student’s jacket pocket. It was not loaded, and no threats were made. Investigators say the child brought the gun to show friends.
