Authorities say eight cars from a longer Union Pacific train derailed around 2:40 a.m. The tracks run alongside a marsh connected to the Minnesota River. Cars carrying methane and propane remained intact, with no leaks detected, according to the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office. Some grain did spill, but officials said there were no additional concerns. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
Karpeles Manuscript Library in Duluth to Close
The Karpeles (KAR-puh-leez) Manuscript Library Museum is set to close its doors after decades of showcasing rare historical documents. The museum featured pieces from the vast collection of David Karpeles, a Duluth native who amassed what was believed to be the world’s largest private collection of manuscripts. Karpeles died in 2022, and his collection, totaling more than one million documents, is now owned by his children. They plan to consolidate the materials into a single museum in St. Augustine, Florida. At its peak, the Karpeles network included more than a dozen museums across the country, each displaying rare and historic texts.
