(Montrose, MN) — Certain Montrose residents are sheltering in place due to a standoff. Around 5:30 a.m., Wright County deputies executed a search warrant at Mindy Lane Apartments. Officials say the suspect has barricaded themselves inside, and a gunshot was fired from the apartment. Residents in the rebuilding area were evacuated, the building nearby is sheltering in place, and others are advised to steer clear of the area. The incident is ongoing.

(Big Lake, MN) — The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a crash in Big Lake that injured two people. Troopers responded to the crash this morning (THURS) around 7, learning two vehicles collided along westbound U.S. 10. The drivers, 35-year-old John Hoosline of Coon Rapids and 72-year-old Elias Salazar of Clearwater, were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minneapolis police announce multiple arrests and charges related to six homicides from three recent shootings. On May 1st, 34-year-old James Ortley was arrested and charged with five counts of second-degree murder. This comes after a shooting on April 29th that killed four people, Evan Denny, 27, Joseph Goodwin, 17, Merelle White, 20, and LeRas Rainey, 28, and injured a woman. For a shooting on April 30th that killed 34-year-old Tiago Gillbert and narrowly missed injuring two young children, three suspects have been charged. Victor Vasquez-Rodriguez, 20, and Jose Vasquez-Rodriguez, 22, face second-degree murder charges, while Raphael Rodrihuez is charged with aiding an offender. Arrest warrants are out for both Victor and Jose; Raphael is in custody. On May 6th, Miciah Jackson was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the April 30th shooting of 51-year-old Derrick Ewing.

(Rochester, MN) — The Rochester branch of the NAACP and community members met in a town hall meeting last night to demand justice and repercussions for the woman at the center of a viral TikTok video. Shiloh Hendrix can be seen in the video calling a young Somalian child the n-word after he allegedly stole items from her diaper bag. The panel of activists and city leaders stated they’re in direct contact with the family of the child, and Rochester police/Olmsted County attorneys are looking into pressing criminal charges. A fundraiser for the family has over $350,000. Meanwhile, Hendrix’s own crowdfunding has raised nearly $750,000.

(Washington, D.C.) — Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is ripping President Trump’s proposal to deport illegal immigrants to Libya. The Minnesota Democrat called Trump’s plan “unconscionable, cruel, and blatantly illegal.” Omar says in a statement, “Sending migrants to a country that they didn’t come from and where they could face torture and inhumane treatment is appalling and criminal.” Libya’s Government of National Unity said today on social media that it is not working with the U.S. on the reported deportations.

(St. Paul, MN) — Conservation groups are rallying at the Minnesota Capitol this afternoon for protections for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and public lands. U.S. Senator Tina Smith and Ingrid Lyons of Save the Boundary Waters are among the speakers. Organizers say they are concerned about proposals in Congress and the White House to roll back protections and open the door to sulfide mining on the doorsteps of the BWCA. Congressman Pete Stauber is sponsoring a bill that would overturn a 20-year ban on mining in the area.

Infielder Royce Lewis, pitcher Bailey Ober, and third base coach Tommy Watkins visit Bryan Square Park in north Minneapolis and take part in a hot dog cookout. Gloves will also be given to under-8 ball players at Rice and Arlington Sports Complex in St. Paul. The Twins are playing the Orioles this afternoon at Target Field.
