(Orono, MN) — The Orono (OAR’-uh-noh) High School boys basketball team is dedicating its season to a senior player killed in a car crash Sunday night in Minnetonka. The Minnesota State Patrol says 17-year-old Lucas Knudson of Corcoran (CORK’-rin) droved off Highway 7 and hit a light pole. A letter sent to Orono families and staff said Knudson was an outstanding student and starter on the Spartans basketball team. Classmates and friends painted the school’s rock with “R-I-P Lucas.” Mourners laid flowers next to the rock, and dozens gathered outside Knudson’s home on Monday night for a vigil.

(Eagan, MN) — Dakota County authorities say a sexual assault on November 7th at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan was a false report. Officers say the assault never occurred, and the woman will be charged with filing a false police report. The woman admitted to police that her claims were false and that the incident never occurred. Investigators are still following up on another reported sexual assault on the Lebanon Hills trail system on September 7th.

(Paynesville, MN) — A Stearns County judge has sentenced a Paynesville woman for murdering her disabled daughter. The judge handed 39-year-old Elise Nelson a prison term of 21 years and nine months. The child had chronic respiratory failure and severe developmental delay from the loss of oxygen at birth. According to the criminal complaint, Nelson was alone with her daughter over four days in June 2020, turned off an oxygen monitoring device, and deprived her of medical care.

(Moorhead, MN) — Moorhead Police are investigating reports of gunshots Monday night. The department says officers were dispatched around 9:45 p.m., where they found casings in the street. No one was hurt, and no property was damaged. Witnesses say a dark SUV may have been involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Moorhead Police Department.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin plans to run for chair of the Democratic National Committee. Martin has led the state party since 2011 and has served as vice chair of the national committee since 2017. Jaime Harrison of South Carolina has been DNC national chair since 2021 and is not expected to seek another term.
