(Walker, MN) — Authorities in northern Minnesota remind duck hunters to wear their life jackets after six boys were rescued Sunday morning on Leech Lake. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the juvenile hunters were in a small duck boat that capsized about three miles from their landing. One of the boys was called 9-1-1, and mapping technology was used to locate them. A D-N-R officer rescued four boys and brought them to shore before returning for the other two. Deputies say the water temperature was 40 degrees, and they were treated for exposure and mild hyperthermia. They had life jackets in the boat but were not wearing them.

(Hennepin County, MN) — The 28-year-old man on trial for the death of five young women during a crash in Minneapolis last year where he was speeding at over 95 mph appears in local court today (MON, 1:30 p.m.). Derrick Thompson is charged with ten counts of criminal vehicular homicide and five counts of third-degree murder. He was given a plea deal in August that he has the option to accept today, which would drop half the vehicular homicide charges if he pleads guilty to the other five. Thomspon was also found guilty in federal court of having drugs and weapons in his car during the crash.

(St. Louis Park, MN) — The statewide average for a gallon of gasoline is now under 3 dollars. Triple-A Minnesota reports today’s average is 2.98 per gallon, about three cents below the national average. Prices have declined more than 7 cents from last week in Minnesota. The cheapest gas is 2.69 a gallon in southeastern Minnesota’s Mower County and 2.72 in Pennington County in the northwest corner of the state.

(Vadnais Heights, MN) — A woman and her three children were injured during a townhome fire in Vadnais Heights on Saturday. Fire crews responded to the complex around 5:40 p.m., finding an active fire and heavy smoke. Firefighters rescued two children, and another child and an adult escaped independently. All four were taken to Regions Hospital, where their conditions are unknown. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It’s not known if the home is still habitable.

(Polk County, MN) — A 16-year-old boy was injured Saturday in a semi vs. vehicle crash in Polk County. Deputies say the victim was heading south on State Highway 9 when he collided with a northbound semi. The teen was taken to Crookston Emergency Room, where his injuries and current condition are unknown. The semi-driver was unharmed.

(Oronoco, MN) — An Oronoco man is in custody after hitting nearly 110 mph in a 55-mph zone while impaired. Olmsted County deputies pulled over 20-year-old Daniel Outcalt around midnight Friday. Outcalt faces charges of third-degree DWI, reckless driving, and speeding at over 100 mph.
