>>225 Members of 148th Fighter Wing Return from Deployment to Japan
(Duluth, MN) — The 148th Fighter Wing in Duluth is welcoming 225 airmen home from a three-month deployment to Japan. The Minnesota National Guard members returned this morning (Mon) from the 18th Wing Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. Some of the personnel and their F-16 aircrafts participated in India’s largest multi-national exercise. One of their loved ones had a sign that read, “I’ve waited 110 days to hug my daddy.”

(St. Paul, MN) — A man is hospitalized with life-threatening gunshot wounds suffered in a shooting at a U-S Post Office Sunday in St. Paul. Officers responded around 3:30 p-m to a report of a man who was shot by one of his coworkers at the building. The victim was taken to Regions Hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds. His condition is unknown. A suspect was arrested around 5 p-m Sunday.

(Northwood, IA) — A Minnesota man is dead after a single-vehicle crash Sunday in northern Iowa. The Iowa State Patrol responded to the crash around 1:45 p-m in Northwood. Investigators say 33-year-old Samuel Poquette of New Ulm was heading south on I-35 in Worth County when he lost control of the vehicle, went through a median, and hit a bridge pillar. Troopers say Poquette died at the scene.

(Fairmont, MN) — There’s a public hearing October 28th on the Mayo Clinic Health System’s plan to end labor and delivery and surgical services in Fairmont next spring. The Minnesota Department of Health is hosting the hearing in-person and virtually to give the community a chance to weigh in on the change in local health care services. Mayo officials blamed the shortage of obstetricians and surgeons for the permanent closures of the units in Fairmont on March 31st, 2025.
>>Light Snow Reported in Arrowhead of Northeastern Minnesota
(Duluth, MN) — Reports from the Arrowhead in northeastern Minnesota indicate some of the first snow of the season. The National Weather Service in Duluth isn’t confirming measurable snowfall but has a photo of light snow on grassy areas near Brimson. Another resident took a picture of snow on the ground and trees near Isabella. Forecasters say there’s a chance of a brief rain-snow mix in the Arrowhead tonight (Mon) and widespread frost in northeastern Minnesota.
>>MPCA Urges Residents to Keep Leaves Out of Water System
(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) says leaves that fall on streets and sidewalks are getting swept into municipal water systems and adding too much phosphorus. The M-P-C-A’s Scott Fox says residents should try to keep organic pollutants out of our water. He recommends raking the leaves out of the curb line and pick those up as well, and properly dispose of them at a compost facility or through composting. Fox says It’s probably one of the biggest pollution problems that we have related to the water quality in Minnesota.
