(Two Rivers, WI) — The mother of three-year-old Elijah Vue and her partner have been charged with his death just a month after his remains were found in Wisconsin. Kartina Baur and Jesse Vang were previously charged with child neglect in the case. Vue went missing on February 1st, reported missing on February 20th, and a deer hunter found his body on private property on September 13th.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Two men have been sentenced for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine that resulted in the deaths of two men and critically injured one woman. 34-year-old Dylan Day of Minneapolis and 37-year-old Bryan Hodapp of Gilbert were sentenced to 13 and 14 and a half years in federal prison, respectively. Multiple agencies responded to a home in Biwabik (buh-WAH-bick) on May 7th, 2022. 42-year-old Mitchell Saltzman and 55-year-old Raymond Lossing were pronounced dead at the scene, and two women were brought to Essentia Health. 61-year-old Catherine Takanen was flown to Duluth with life-threatening injuries, while 42-year-old Hailey Plunkett was treated locally and released. The suspects were found to have sold the narcotics in the Twin Cities metro that caused the deaths.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Bloomington woman has pleaded guilty to her role in the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme. In February 2020, 65-year-old Farhiya Mohamud created Dua Supplies and Distribution Inc. to supply food to paying customers. Mohamud’s customers participated as vendors for the Federal Child Nutrition Program, including co-defendants Haji Salad and Fahad Nur. Money from Salad and Nur was deposited in Mohamud’s bank account, which she used to buy a small amount of food for Salad and Nur, then used the rest on real estate at her son’s direction, Shamarke Issa. Mohamud is the 23rd defendant to plead guilty related to the fraud scheme. Her sentencing will be scheduled later.

(St. Paul, MN) — The National Weather Service is predicting a fairly normal Minnesota winter. The agency released its winter forecast yesterday and said much of the state should experience wetter-than-average conditions. Some parts of Minnesota will also see cooler-than-normal temperatures, which could lead to an increased amount of snow. The Twin Cities area received just under 30 inches of snow last year, while snowfall during an average year is around 54 inches.

(Winona, MN) — A man is facing assault charges after a shooting near the campus of Winona State University. Officers were called early yesterday morning after a gunshot was reported. A man with a gunshot wound to the chest was airlifted to a hospital in Wisconsin in critical condition. Investigators say 27-year-old Cole Cameron was in an argument with the man before the shooting happened. Cameron was arrested for first-degree assault and booked into the Winona County Jail.

(Mankato, MN) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency is looking to hire some Minnesotans after their experience with disaster relief efforts earlier this year. The agency held a job fair in Mankato yesterday in hopes of luring some of them into federal service. Agency officials say they always try to bring those who have been through natural disasters onto the FEMA team to help deal with ongoing emergencies. FEMA will hold another job fair in Rochester on Tuesday.
