>>Political Analyst Lays Out Clashing Styles Between Gov. Walz, Sen. Vance Before VP Debate

(Undated) – The only Vice Presidential Debate is tonight between Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Ohio Senator JD Vance. Fluence Media Political Analyst Blois Olson has moderated three debates with Walz in the past and notes that Walz “tends to make mistakes when he gets anxious or fired up.” Sixth District Congressman Tom Emmer played the role of Walz in the debate prep for Vance. Olson says Vance has performed well in his previous debates, calling him “centered and smooth,” adding that their clashing styles could make for an interesting debate. Olson says he expects Minnesota to be front and center throughout the debate, with Walz looking to tout issues like free school lunches and funding for education, while Vance will highlight things like the riots after George Floyd’s murder and COVID-19 fraud.

(Rochester, MN) — The City of Rochester is seeking help collecting unpaid parking tickets. Officials say the city is owed about $870,000 in unpaid tickets dating back to 2018. Rochester is working with its parking system vendor to give those with unpaid fines a chance to pay up. Fines still unpaid by January 1st will be sent to collections.

(Minneapolis, MN) – Some Minnesota business owners attribute a decline in summer business to the weather. Explore Minnesota, Hospitality Minnesota, and the Minneapolis Federal Reserve surveyed over 260 tourism-related businesses to assess the summer tourist season. Approximately half of the respondents reported a customer decrease, with 48% attributing this decline to rain. The survey also revealed that around two-thirds of the business owners surveyed expressed optimism about an anticipated increase in traffic over the next six months.

(Duluth, MN) — Superior National Forest has implemented campfire restrictions in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Starting today, campfires will not be allowed due to the high risk of wildfires in the region. However, gas and propane cook stoves are still permitted in all areas of the BWCA. These restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

(Minneapolis, MN) – Two of the Broadway musical Parade stars will be coming to Minnesota. Hennepin Arts has announced that Max Chernin and Talia Suskauer will play their roles of Leo and Lucille Frank when the National Tour comes to the Orpheum Theatre from January 21st through the 26th of next year. Tickets go on sale on Thursday, October 10th.

 

>>Timberwolves Open Training Camp Without Karl-Anthony Towns

(Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN) – The Timberwolves open training camp today, and for the first time since 2015, the opening session will not include star player Karl-Anthony Towns. “KAT” was traded to the New York Knicks on Friday night in exchange for all-star forward Julius Randle and others. Timberwolves forward Naz Reid says he will miss Towns: “He’s tough; he’s an incredible human being. Definitely thinks of you before him; very unselfish. A guy you want to be around.” The Wolves open the preseason slate on Friday night with an exhibition game at the LA Lakers. Minnesota advanced to the NBA Western Conference Finals last year before losing to Dallas.
