(Collinwood Township, MN) — Authorities in Meeker County are investigating a weekend explosion that left a man from Dassel dead. The sheriff’s office says 46-year-old Jeffery Holmquist was the victim of a gas explosion inside a fish house that caused severe burns to his body. Deputies say Holmquist was airlifted to the Hennepin Healthcare Burn Center Saturday morning, where he later died from his injuries. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting local investigators.

(Faribault, MN) — A man in Faribault has died in a manhole. Fire officials responded to a report of a man unresponsive in a manhole Friday. Firefighters found extremely high levels of hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide. The man was given an oxygen mask before being brought to a helicopter. Despite life-saving aid, the man died later that day. OSHA was contacted via the Minnesota Duty Officer, but it’s unknown who the man was working for.

(Duluth, MN) — A Duluth native known for his love of inline skating is dead after a marathon Saturday. In a Facebook post, organizers of the NorthShore Inline Marathon announced that 36-year-old Mike Luftholm died following the Duluth race. Police responded around 7:30 a.m. to a report of a skater down in the tunnels of I-35. Luftholm was brought to a local hospital, where he later died. Friends and family say he was passionate about the sport, acting as an ambassador for the Rollerblade company, and his wife had just given birth to a baby girl in August.
>>6-Year-Old Girl Critically Injured, 4 Others Injured in Stacy Crash
(Stacy, MN) — A 6-year-old girl is in critical condition, and four others are injured after a crash in Stacy Saturday. Chisago County officials responded to 911 calls of a head-on crash around 10:35 a.m., finding five people hurt from the crash, four of whom were in the same vehicle. The 6-year-old girl was airlifted to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries. The four other victims were brought to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested a 39-year-old man Saturday and believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

(Rockford, MN) — A 28-year-old motorcyclist is still in the hospital after a crash Sunday in Wright County. Deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash near Highway 55 in Rockford around 5:30 p.m., finding the man unconscious on the road. Shortly after, the man tried to get up and flee, as a DWI search warrant was obtained due to signs of impairment. The man was restrained and airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.

(St. Paul, MN) – Associate Justice Theodora “Teddy” Gaïtas will officially be sworn into the Minnesota Supreme Court today during an investiture ceremony. Gaïtas served as an Appeals Court judge before she was appointed to the Supreme Court in April, saying, “As an appellate public defender, I had the incredible privilege of practicing before our Supreme Court. And I still get shivers when I walk into the spectacular Supreme Court courtroom here at the Capitol.” She says she’s deeply committed to ensuring that the law in Minnesota is applied fairly and equally. Justice Gaïtas joined the state’s high court on August 1 following the retirement of Justice Margaret Chutich.
