(Battle Lake, MN) — Authorities in west central Minnesota say an iconic bar and restaurant in Battle Lake is a total loss following a fire. The Battle Lake police chief says the fire at Stub’s Dining and Gunpowder Bar was reported around 9:30 Monday night. Eight area fire departments battle the flames until about 3:30 this morning (Tues). The roof collapsed, and the building suffered significant interior damage. Officials say Stub’s opened in 1969 and was purchased by two long-time employees in 1995. The State Fire Marshal’s office is assisting with the investigation.

(Rochester, MN) — A woman is hospitalized after being hit by a car Monday afternoon outside a shopping center in Rochester. Police say the 74-year-old woman was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck by a car that ended up crashing into the front of a Famous Footwear store. The victim was taken by ambulance to the Mayo Clinic with unknown injuries. Officers say the 40-year-old woman driving the car was cited for failure to yield and reckless driving. No word on the victim’s current medical condition.

(Belle Plaine, MN) — A 93-year-old woman is dead after a head-on crash in central Minnesota. State Patrol says a Chevy Equinox drove south in the northbound lanes of Highway 169 in Belle Plaine and crashed into a Chevy Silverado. The Chevy driver, identified as Irene Castor of Belle Plaine, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Silverado driver, a 38-year-old woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

(St. Peter, MN) — Two people are in custody and face multiple charges after an armed robbery and vehicle theft Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. Police responded to the scene around 2:45 a.m., noting the suspect had a rifle-style gun and stole the victim’s vehicle. Plymouth police arrested the suspects in the stolen vehicle and seized the replica firearm and other evidence tied to the case.

(Brainerd, MN) — A Minnesota Department of Natural Resources pilot is being recognized for rescuing two people earlier this year. Grace Zeller has been presented with DNR’s life-saving award. Zeller was off duty when she responded by helicopter to a call for help back in May after a group’s canoe went over Curtain Falls. She was able to rescue Kyle Sellers and Erik Grams. Two other members of their group did not survive.

(Washington, DC) — The Republican-led House Oversight Committee is launching a probe into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s ties to China. Committee Chair and Kentucky Congressman James Comer says the vice presidential candidate has not been forthcoming about why he spent so much time in China. Walz moved to the Far East country in 1989 to teach English and has since visited the country more than 30 times. Comer believes Walz’s frequent trips to China raise questions about Beijing’s influence on the governor’s decision-making.
