>>Lakeville Woman Found Dead at Campground in Wabasha County

(Mazeppa, MN) — The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the weekend death of a woman at a campground in Mazeppa. Deputies say they found a woman dead in a camper without obvious signs of trauma Saturday evening at Mac’s Park Place. She was identified as 63-year-old Barbara McBride-Law from Lakeville. Authorities are awaiting the autopsy results for the official cause and manner of death. 

 

>>Man Charged for Strangling, Choking Sister in Otter Tail Lake

(Otter Tail Lake, MN) — A Shakopee man faces several charges, including felony domestic assault, after strangling his sister. Otter Tail County deputies responded to a 911 call around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday of a man trying to drown family members in Otter Tail Lake. A neighbor and family members say they helped two women, ages 25 and 64, to safety. Investigators say 38-year-old Franklin Dickinson became angry and allegedly grabbed his sister by the throat and choked her underwater until she lost consciousness. The mother intervened, and the suspect began to pull her hair toward the water. The suspect was talked out of the water by deputies and arrested. 

 

>>New York Mills Man Arrested for Allegedly Beating Woman

(New York Mills, MN) — A 41-year-old man is in custody after assaulting a woman on Saturday in Otter Tail County. Deputies responded to a New York Mills residence around 3:32 p.m. on a medical report. They found a woman lying on the floor with significant facial trauma. The victim was brought to Perham Health and later airlifted to a hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. The suspect, Justin Lemon, was arrested inside the home. He is charged with felony domestic assault and third-degree assault.

 

>>Walz Confirms Plan to Call Special Session on Gun Safety Legislation 

(Eagan, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is confirming that he plans to call a special session on gun violence legislation. Walz told reporters at a school in Eagan today that he’s still talking with state lawmakers about what it might include. House Speaker Lisa Demuth says she’s disappointed that the governor didn’t involve legislative leaders in discussions about a special session. She says, “House Republicans stand ready to protect students and schools.” The push comes in the wake of the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. 

 

>>Concern Over MN Reading, Math Scores

(St. Paul, MN) – As most Minnesota students head back to school today, there’s still concern over math and reading scores. The Minnesota Department of Education report showed that under 50% are reading at their grade level, and the math numbers were even lower at 45%. Republican Senator Julia Coleman from Waconia, who sits on the Education Policy Committee, is concerned that these numbers are not improving. She says we’ve seen numerous curriculum mandates and demands on students, but no efforts to raise these scores. Coleman says she wants more control over school budgets allocated to the districts, rather than the Department of Education.

 

>>Twins and White Sox Play Meet Again at Target Field

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox play the second game of a four-game set tonight at Target Field. Chicago rallied past Minnesota 6-5 in the series opener on Labor Day. Simeon Woods Richardson starts for the 62-75 Twins. Davis Martin is on the mound for the 55-88 White Sox.
