(St. Paul, MN) — The state Board of Animal Health is reporting bird flu has hit two more commercial turkey operations in Le Sueur and Blue Earth counties. Minnesota Turkey Growers Association President Jake Vlaminck of rural Blomkest says the virus is carried by migrating wild birds, and it’s arriving early this fall. He says you’re usually looking more in October for activity. At least six commercial turkey operations in Minnesota have been affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza this fall.

(Willmar, MN) — A woman from Maynard in western Minnesota will spend up to four years in prison for her part in the drug-related death of a Willmar man. A Kandiyohi County Judge Monday sentenced 21-year-old Mercedes Carpenter to 48 months at the Women’s Prison in Shakopee for selling fentanyl to a Willmar man who was later found dead of an overdose in his bathtub in September 2023. A co-defendant in the case, 28-year-old Mateef Mahaffey Junior of Benson, was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison earlier this summer after being found guilty on six charges in the case. Carpenter entered an Alford plea to a charge of second-degree manslaughter in May, and several other charges were dismissed.

(Andover, MN) — Authorities in Anoka County are investigating a deadly crash between a pickup and school bus in Andover. Sheriff’s deputies say a pickup pulling a trailer crossed the centerline this morning (Tues) and hit a school bus head-on. The report says the man driving the pickup was treated at the scene but died of his injuries. Five Anoka High School students were on the bus. The female driver and one of the students were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The four other students were picked up by their parents.

(Perham, MN) — A motorcyclist is dead after a crash involving a pickup truck Monday afternoon near Perham. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says a motorcycle driven by a 65-year-old Detroit Lakes man failed to obey a stop sign at an intersection and struck the pickup. Witnesses and paramedics tried to save the man, but he died at the scene. His name hasn’t been released. The pickup driver wasn’t hurt.

(Champlin, MN) — Police in the north metro are searching for a missing 51-year-old Champlin woman. Kathleen Schnell was last seen leaving a home on foot last Wednesday. She is described as white, five feet six inches tall, weighs 250 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information about Schnell should contact the Champlin Police Department.

Officials say a Gopher 5 ticket sold at Sun Foods in Brooklyn Center is a 110-thousand-dollar winner in Friday’s drawing. Prizes that large must be claimed at the Minnesota Lottery headquarters in Roseville.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov is going to be the highest-paid player in N-H-L history. The team signed Kaprizov today (Tues) to an eight-year, 136-million-dollar contract extension. He will average 17 million dollars a year through the 2033-2034 season. Twenty-eight-year-old Kaprizov scored 25 goals and had 31 assists in 41 games last year but missed half of the season due to injury. The three-time All-Star is only player in Wild history with multiple 40-goal seasons.
