When it comes to health insurance and understanding plan coverage, millenials say it can be a significant source of anxiety for them. Edward Arias is a manager with Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Minnesota…
“They buy a plan with the initial perception that it fits their needs. And then since they are generally healthy aren’t utilizing a lot of benefits in the plan. And so that’s where we as experts right — either Blue Cross Blue Shield retail centers or an independent agent can help them maximize the benefits of the plans they have.”
Arias says it’s a good idea to sit down with a plan representative at least once a year to review your coverage…
“We want to make sure that the plans that they have are working for them. And that before the year is out that they figure out whether they utilized the plan and have exhausted the benefits that are available to them.”
Arias says they also found that while most millennials understood on-line shorthand such as LOL for “laugh out loud,” they were less likely to be familiar with health care-related acronyms such as “PPO,” which stands for “preferred provider organization.”
