Making municipal I-D cards available to Minneapolis residents is on the agenda at a city council committee hearing Monday afternoon. The Star Tribune reports Minneapolis is following the lead of other cities across the country that are issuing I-Ds to undocumented immigrants. The Minneapolis Police Department would accept the municipal I-D as a form of identification but it would not take the place of a drivers license. The names of those receiving I-Ds would likely be public, because state data privacy laws don’t apply to such information.
