Minneapolis has recorded its largest-ever number of drug overdoses in one week — 50, between May 28th and June 3rd. Fifteen of those overdoses, including one suspected drug-related fatality, occurred last Sunday alone. Investigators say multiple types of drugs are contributing to the spike in overdoses in Minneapolis, including counterfeit oxycontin, potent heroin and additional unknown substances. The majority of overdose calls came from the area around the East Phillips neighborhood. Saint Paul and Washington County have also issued “overdose alerts” in recent days.
