Minneapolis murder suspect arrested in northwestern Minnesota

April 12, 2018 By Tasha Redel

A Minneapolis murder suspect has been arrested in Mahnomen County. 18-year-old Juan Vasquez, Jr., was taken into custody Wednesday morning at a home in Naytahwaush on a U.S. Marshall’s Felony Warrant for homicide. He was charged last month with second-degree murder and second-degree assault. According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a “ShotSpotter” alert in the Little Earth United Tribes housing complex in South Minneapolis March 26th. Officers found an unresponsive male lying on the steps of a residence. They attempted to revive the 19-year old but he died at the scene. A second victim, a teenage boy, was hospitalized with “shrapnel-type” wounds to his legs, face, and head. A witness to the shooting identified Vasquez in the surveillance video. Another suspect was with Vasquez and both fled the scene. A warrant has been issued for the second suspect. Vasquez is being held in the Clearwater County Jail in Bagley, awaiting return to Hennepin County.  Thanks to KFGO
