State D-F-L Party Chairman Ken Martin this morning submits the list of candidates who will be on the Democratic ballot in Minnesota’s “Super Tuesday” presidential primary next March 3rd. Under state law, the chairs of the major political parties decide which candidates appear on their party’s ballot in the presidential primary. That prompted legal action against the Republican Party of Minnesota, which decided to list only one name on the ballot — Donald Trump — although write-ins will be allowed. For all major parties, if a listed candidate drops out before the primary, their name will still remain on the ballot. According to state law, the results of the presidential primary must bind the election of delegates to each party’s national convention. Precinct caucuses are still held in Minnesota, this time on February 25th, but the presidential straw poll is replaced by the primary one week later.
