Minnesota is one of the first states in the nation to receive federal approval to include what’s termed “housing stabilization services” in basic Medicaid benefits. Stacy Twite with the state Human Services Department says benefits will be available starting July 2020 for seniors…people with disabilities, mental illness or substance-abuse disorder…and those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Twite says it’s for “these populations in our state who’ve had a hard time, not only finding housing but securing and maintaining their housing. These are services that would help these individuals really find housing support services, find housing and also sustain that housing.”
Those interested should contact their county or tribal office. People living in an institutional setting can also access the benefits.
