Minnesota Golden Gopher softball at Big Ten Tourney

The Golden Gopher softball team begins play in the 2016 Big Ten Softball Tournament at Penn State today.  Minnesota is ranked 19th in the country and is the number-two seed in the event.  The Gophers play against Illinois today at 1:30 P-M in a quarterfinal game.  The Fighting Illini beat Michigan State yesterday in a first round game, 3-2. Here are the results and the schedule of games at the Big Ten Conference Softball Tournament in University Park, Pennsylvania with conference seeding in parentheses:

First Round (Thursday):  (6) Ohio State 5, (11) Rutgers 0 (final)
First Round (Thursday):  (7) Illinois 3 (10) Michigan State 2 (final)
First Round (Thursday):  (5) Nebraska 8, (12) Purdue 0 (final)
First Round (Thursday):  Indiana 4, (8) Wisconsin 0 (final)

Quarterfinal #1 (Friday):  (3) Northwestern vs. (6) Ohio State, 11 A-M
Quarterfinal #2 (Friday):  (2) Minnesota vs. (7) Illinois, 1:30 P-M
Quarterfinal #3 (Friday):  (4) Penn State vs. (5) Nebraska, 4:30 P-M
Quarterfinal #4 (Friday):  (1) Michigan vs. (9) Indiana, 7 P-M

Semifinal #1 (Saturday):  Quarterfinal #1 winner vs. Quarterfinal #2 winner, noon
Semifinal #2 (Saturday):  Quarterfinal #3 winner vs. Quarterfinal #4 winner, 2:30 P-M

Championship (Saturday):  Semifinal #1 winner vs. Semifinal #2 winner, 5:30 P-M
