Anti-gun-violence groups in Minnesota are applauding President Obama’s executive order Tuesday while gun rights groups pooh-pooh it. Hamline University law professor emeritus Joseph Olson calls it political theater, saying “it’s not an executive order ’cause it’s simply a restatement of what the law is now.” But Heather Martens with Protect Minnesota applauds Obama for making sure the law is enforced. “We know that in Minnesota this private seller loophole has been used to get guns to the criminal market,” she says. Martens predicts gun violence will be a major issue in the fall election, adding “Americans are getting more interested in actually voting their conscience when it comes to guns.”
