(Brooklyn Park, MN) — Police in Brooklyn Park say a three-year-old boy is in critical condition after a dog attack Friday afternoon. Officers say they found two pit bulls “actively” attacking the child and discharged their weapons, killing one dog and wounding the other. The boy was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital where he’s now reportedly in critical condition. The incident is still under investigation.

Minnesota Realtors president Geri Theis (tice) of Redwood Falls says new listings were down more than nine percent, pending sales down about 13 percent, and closed sales 17 percent down. Theis says new listings in Minnesota were up 8.8 percent and closed sales 3.7 percent over the first six months of the year. She predicts a drop in the interest rates will make buyers less hesitant. The average median price for a home in Minnesota is 355 thousand dollars

(Gnesen, MN) — A home is a total loss in Gnesen Township after an early morning fire. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department occupants of the residence were awoken by the sounds of their fire alarms and were able to make it out of the house. One adult female was treated for smoke inhalation. The State Fire Marshals Office is investigating the fire.

(Otter Tail County, MN) — The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has a new K-9 officer. K-9 Koa is a two-year-old German Shepherd from Slovakia. Koa and his handler, Deputy Kelby Jensen, are working to become a certified K-9 team, a 13-week process. Koa will be trained for narcotics detection, searches, tracking, and apprehension. Koa replaces K-9 Mojo, who retired this spring after 9 years with the Sheriff’s Office.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesota Twins legend Joe Mauer will be inducted into the National Baseball of Hall of Fame on Sunday. Mauer was the 2009 American League M-V-P, a six-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, and the only catcher to win three batting titles. He’ll be the fourth player from Minnesota’s capital city to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Molitor, Dave Winfield, and Jack Morris will be seated behind him at the induction ceremony.

(Grand Rapids, MN) — Minnesota is in the top five states for local investments under the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program, which provides grants and loans to farmers and rural small businesses that install clean energy systems or take on energy efficiency projects. Grand Rapids berry farmer Stuart Lavalier says after the first year of getting solar panels up and running, the financial benefits were clear. Lavalier says he’s encountered skepticism from community members about the benefits, prompting him to lay out the facts, but he thinks it’s a good thing people are curious. Between 2018 and 2022, Minnesota saw nearly 140 million dollars in REAP funds awarded to landowners.

Community Outreach Director Sonya Boyd says over 2,500 LGBTQ+ people and allies will hail nationwide. She says their chapter began in 2016 with just kickball but now includes bowling, dodgeball, tennis, bocce (bah-CHEE), pickleball, and cornhole.

The Twins will play the Cardinals in St. Louis on March 27 for Opening Day. It’s the earliest season opener in franchise history.
