Expect long debate before the Minnesota House votes later today on increasing state funding for public schools 900 million dollars. Little Falls Republican Ron Kresha says everyone supports giving schools the resources they need, but Democrats’ bill “simply is unrealistic”. “The only way that you could get to the number they are proposing is by raiding the transportation fund… and then raising the gas tax to backfill that,” Kresha says.
House Democratic Majority Leader Ryan Winkler responds, “There is no way that we can make a significant difference for Minnesota’s kids, for people’s health care, for transportation, for higher education — there is no way that we can make a difference in any of those areas without some new revenue in some places.”
