“Lots of smoke, many mirrors, no substance,” says Hamline law professor emeritus Joseph Olson about President Obama’s anti-gun-violence initiative — which Olson says just repeats what’s already in law.  He adds “it may cause some people to apply for licenses, it may cause other people to cease making sales, and it may do nothing at all.”  Heather Martens with Protect Minnesota disagrees.  “Right now there are people who are actually selling lots of firearms and still maintaining that they are private sellers, so therefore they don’t have to do background checks.” she says.  Martens applauds the president for dealing with that situation.
