Minnesotans on both sides of the political aisle are mourning the loss of former First Lady Nancy Reagan, who died Sunday at her home in Los Angeles at the age of 94. When Mrs. Reagan first came to the White House she was criticized by some women’s rights advocates as being too traditional, and at the end of President Reagan’s second term was being accused by some of being a behind-the-scenes power in the administration. She said her sole objective was to back her “Ronnie.” Mrs. Reagan became a full-time caretaker as the former president’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s progressed. Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar says Mrs. Reagan “fought to advance the progress of research” on Alzheimer’s and adds we can ensure her legacy lives on by carrying on this advocacy.
