There’s good news, not-so-good news and a lot of uncertainty in Minnesota’s market for private health insurance, says a new report from the state Health Department. Health economist Stefan Gildemeister says H-M-Os look to be on track for revenues greater than expenses — important to prevent companies dropping out of the market. But Gildemeister says, “At the same time, it looks as if enrollment in the market in 2017 has contracted quite a bit, dropping to really the lowest rate that we have seen over the six years or so, to about 166 thousand.” That’s down from a peak of 309-thousand in 2015. Gildemeister says they’re also worried that changes Congress has made or is considering, could destabilize the health insurance market for those not covered by their employers or on public programs.
