Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson says she’s waiting to see what President Donald Trump does next after his immigration order was blocked by a federal court of appeals late last week. Swanson says she’s heard from people on both sides of the issue since filing a lawsuit along with Washington state to challenge Trump’s order banning travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries. And she says when considering constitutional issues “you gotta just try to apply the law as fairly as you can in the best interest of what the constitution requires and this case is about checks and balances and application of pretty weighty constitutional principles.” Swanson says she filed the suit in part because of the ban’s potential impact on a doctor shortage in rural Minnesota…
Swanson says up to 40-percent of all patient visits in rural America occur with a foreign-born physician. Trump has said he may consider signing a new order. His administration argues the ban is necessary for national security and that it is not discriminatory.
