Farmers with losses from the current trade war can expect federal assistance after the fall harvest, says Minnesota Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap after this week’s briefing by Trump administration officials. Paap says federal aid will be based on actual production history “so we know exactly how many bushels have been affected.” Paap advises affected farmers to “hang in there.” He says with low farm income it feels like the perfect storm but “things are gonna get better.”
Paap calls the Trump administration’s 12-billion-dollar package good temporary relief for effects of the trade war. “This clearly shows that the trade war is putting significant financial pressure on agriculture, farmers and ranchers across the Midwest,” he says.
