MN attorney general candidates each warn the other will politicize the office

October 30, 2018 By Bill Werner

With one week to the election, the Republican and Democratic candidates for Minnesota attorney general each warn the other will politicize the office. State Senator Warren Limmer, who backs Republican Doug Wardlow, says he’s worried about the direction Democrat Keith Ellison would go: “comments he’s made over recent weeks and months that the role of attorney general is going to be far different than what’s written into law.”

Ellison responds his Republican opponent has said he’ll be non-political, “and yet he’s gonna fire 42 Democratic A-Gs [staffers]; he’s gonna change the complexion of the state to make it more Republican; he’s gonna carry out the Trump agenda. That sounds super-political to me.”  Ellison proposes reforms in the attorney general’s office which he says would protect staffers from discrimination based on their political affiliation.
