Minnesota Democrats are sharply critical of a tax bill that Republicans in the U-S House unveiled Thursday. D-F-L Party Chairman Ken Martin says Minnesotans need a simpler, fairer tax code — but Republicans’ plan would limit the deduction on mortgage interest that families depend on, plus take away other deductions that help Minnesotans afford college and offset the cost of medical expenses — while giving “massive handouts” to the wealthiest Americans. Republicans disagree, President Trump promising Americans “a giant tax cut for Christmas” that will create jobs. House Speaker Paul Ryan from neighboring Wisconsin calls it a “game-changer.” But the proposal would increase the national debt which is a problem for some Republicans.
