A fourth closed-door meeting this morning at the State Capitol as Democrats and Republicans continue trying to reach a deal on an assistance program for those who can’t afford insulin. Democratic Representative Michael Howard from Richfield says while they’re having productive discussions, “We are not yet to a place where we have a bill that we can send to the governor and hold a special session. We need to work urgently to do so, because this is long past due that we solve this problem.” Howard acknowledges one issue that still remains is insulin manufacturers’ participation in the program.
Governor Tim Walz is urging negotiators to come to an agreement. He says they set a 30-day deadline for themselves which is this coming Monday.
