MN-DOT is asking farmers as they prepare for spring planting to consider leaving standing corn rows along some state highways next fall as a “living snow fence” for the following winter. The agency’s Dan Gullickson says last season 40-plus farmers helped them protect 17 miles of highway and “hopefully by getting the word out at spring planting time, we can grow those numbers.” MN-DOT pays farmers to leave standing corn rows, hay bales or silage bages along selected highways.
